Dr. Max N. Andrews of Dacula GA was called home to our God on Memorial Day, May 27th 2013 surrounded by his loving and supportive wife, friends and devoted care of United Hospice.
He was born February 16, 1948 in Manistee, Michigan and lived most of his life in Decatur, Georgia. Max graduated from Bob Jones University and Maranatha Baptist Seminary. Over the course of his varied career, he taught on the middle school, high school and college level and served as interim pastor in churches in Wisconsin, Virginia and West Virginia. Max loved our country. He served on the White House Commission on the Bicentennial of the United States Constitution as Director of Private Sector Programs under Chief Justice Warren Burger, working the Defense Department to develop programs for World War II Commemorations and in the Virginia National Guard where he retired at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
Max also served as Director of Development for a hospice organization in Georgia and in 2003, he founded Shepherdstone, a missionary project that develops hospice and palliative care programs for HIV/AIDS pandemic areas of East Africa.
As a lifelong proponent of Christian martial arts, Max earned black belts in 6 different arts including a 9th degree black belt in Niho Kempo Jujitsu Ryu. He was a dedicated Sensei. In 2007 he was inducted into the United States Martial Arts Hall of Fame. Max is a charter member of both the Christian Black Belt Association and the International Fellowship of Christian Martial Arts, which awarded him the Lifetime Service Award in 2011, now called the "Max Andrews Lifetime Service Award".
Since 2007, Max has worked with the Department of Homeland Security/FEMA, continuing his work throughout his illness up until his death. In 2008 he was named Federal Employee of the Year for the Southeastern Region.
