SGT Elmer Bruvold was the second son of Albert and Emma Johnson Bruvold, both natives of Wisconsin, with roots in Norway. Elmer and his siblings (including older brother, Alvin and younger sisters Agnes, Marjorie, Ruth and Dolores) grew up on a farm in rural Buffalo County, Wisconsin.

The Federal Census of 1940 finds him at age 21, working the farm with his father and brother, having completed grammar school.

In 1942, Elmer came to the aid of his country, and enlisted in the US Army on 12/22/1942 in Milwaukee. His enlistment papers note that he was 67" tall, and weighed #153. He attained the rank of SGT by the date of his honorable discharge on 1/28/1946. SGT Buvold earned a Purple Heart during his tour of service.

Elmer spent his retirement years in Buffalo City, Wisconsin. Truly God's Country, fit for an American hero!
