Erath - Lloyd Joseph Comeaux, 87, a native of Coteau and New Iberia, and a resident of Erath, Louisiana for 46 years, died at his home in Erath on Father's Day, June 16, 2013 surrounded in love by his children and wife.
Mr. Comeaux is survived by his wife, Lilly D. Comeaux of Erath; his daughters - Brenda Comeaux Hulin of New Iberia, and her sons, Jamie, Bryant and Chris; Donna C. Moore, her husband, Junius "Buzz" Moore of Erath, and their sons, Joshua and wife, Christina, and Jarod and fiance', Sarah; and Lisa C. Richardelle, her husband, Darryl Richardelle of Erath and their daughters, Danielle and Sydney; and his son, William P. (Bill) Comeaux of Atlanta, Georgia, and his daughters, Theresa and husband Mike Touchet, Tarrah and husband, WL Davis, and Tiffany and husband, Seth LeBlanc; his grandson, Chad Comeaux and wife Jana', his granddaughter, Nicole and husband Robbie; and his daughter-in-law, Nancy Comeaux.
"Paw Paw Lloyd" was also blessed with 21 great grandchildren. He is also survived by Lilly's children Linda, Kathy, Timmy and their children who grew up knowing him as Paw Paw Lloyd.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Theresa Marie Richard Comeaux; his son, Richard Lloyd Joseph Comeaux; his step-daughter, Cheryl T. Vidalia; his twin brother, Robert Comeaux, his brothers Murphy Comeaux, Alcide "Nook" Comeaux, and Lloyd Derouen; his sisters, Alma Dore and Eunice Taylor; and his parents, Entime Comeaux and Lydia Chargois Comeaux.
Mr. Comeaux was retired from the US Postal Service after 35 years of service in New Iberia as a postal carrier. Lloyd was well known for his strong work ethic, his wonderful sense of humor, his willingness to help his family and friends, and his love of his family.
As a young 19 year old, Mr. Comeaux enlisted in the US Army on January 12, 1944 and he prepared for service at Camp Fannin, Camp Van Dorn and Fort Meade from January – October 1944. On November 1, he went to Camp Shanks, New York, a large staging area for troops going overseas, and boarded an English ship for an 8 day trip to Glasgow, Scotland. He then went by train to London, a boat to Normandy, France, and then a train through France to Belgium where his group was separated into Divisions. He was then assigned to the 9th Division, 1st Platoon, 47th Infantry Regiment, Company C. After being trucked to Belgium and then Holland, Lloyd saw his first day of active fighting on November 26th. He went on to the small village of Monchau, Germany where his and other Divisions were part of the Battle of the Bulge. They continued to fight in fox holes in Monchau for 4 -5 weeks in the dead of winter. On March 8, 1945, after crossing the Rhine River, he was sent to the hospital in Paris due to injuries he received after being knocked off of a tank. After 6 weeks of recovery, he went back to front lines and was 35 miles from Berlin when the war ended. They were moved 10 miles from Munich for about one month and then helped to guard the Nazis at the Dachau concentration camp. On May, 1946, he left Germany for New York and was back in Louisiana in May as Private First Class.
Lloyd and his family were always very proud of his service during WWII and that of his fellow servicemen. One of his fondest experiences was the trip he was able to take with all of his five children in November 2004 to Washington DC. Of most importance was the ability to visit the WWII Memorial and the Arlington cemetery with his kids.
Visitation will be observed Monday, June 17, 2013 from 5:00 – 9:00 PM with a rosary recited at 7:00 PM at David's Funeral Home in Abbeville, Louisiana. Services will resume on Tuesday from 10:00 AM until the time of services. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, June 18, 2013 at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Erath, Louisiana at 3:00 PM officiated by The Reverend Bill Melancon. Readings and presentations will be by his six granddaughters, Theresa Touchet, Nicole Butaud, Dr. Tarrah Davis, Tiffany LeBlanc, Danielle Richardelle and Sydney Richardelle. As per his wishes, Pallbearers will be his six grandsons, Jamie, Bryant and Chris Hulin, Joshua and Jarod Moore, and Chad Comeaux. Honorary Pallbearers will be his son, William P.
