John Aboody, 61, of Shrewsbury, died Friday, May 25, in UMass Memorial Medical Center -- University Campus, Worcester, after an illness.

He leaves a step-son, Blake Kendzior of Denver, Colo.; three brothers, Joseph Aboody, Paul Aboody Jr. and Richard Aboody, all of Worcester; three sisters, Marion Haddad, Naphie Samara, and Grace Aboody, all of Worcester; nieces and nephews. A brother, George "Buddy" Aboody and a sister, Adele MacKoul predeceased him. He was born in Worcester, son of Paul and Helen (Kalil) Aboody. He graduated from Commerce High. He served in the Army.

Mr. Aboody worked for many years at his family's restaurant in Worcester, El Morocco. He also owned J.P. Aboody's, a group of restaurants around Boston, including locations in Faneuil Hall, the Corner Mall, and Lafayette Place. He was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, Worcester.

The funeral service and burial will be private at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. A memorial service will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 256 Hamilton Street, Worcester, MA 01604. Mercadante Funeral Home & Chapel, 370 Plantation St., Worcester, is directing arrangements.
