Funeral services are scheduled tomorrow for Paul Aboody Sr., for 40 years a host to celebrities at his El Morocco restaurant in Worcester.

Aboody died Monday at University of Massachusetts Hospital here.


Over the years, patrons of "The El," as it was known, included trumpeter and bandleader Harry James, and musuicans Stan Kenton, Frank Sinatra, Nat (King) Cole, Patti Page, Wayne Newton and Arthur Fiedler, longtime conductor of the Boston Pops, and comedians Totie Fields and Rodney Dangerfield.

Born in Mushgara, Lebanon, Aboody came to Worcester with his family when he was about 12 and opened a one-room Middle Eastern restaurant in 1944 in a three-decker house. In 1977 he opened a new restaurant to a crowd that included musicians, entertainers, and US Sen. Edward W. Brooke.


Aboody leaves four sons, Joseph, John, Paul Jr. and Richard; four daughters, Adelle MacKoul, Marion N. Haddad, Naphie Samara and Grace; and a sister, Amelia Gazal, all of Worcester.

The funeral service will be held in Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church.
