Marvin Franklin Young, 86, passed away in his sleep during the early morning hours of Nov. 18, 2004.
A son of Isaac and Rosie Wright Young, Marvin was born May 7, 1918, in Mount Pleasant, Texas. He married Thelma Ruth Carter on June 19, 1944, in Dallas, Texas.
Marvin served in the Army during World War II. He moved to Grantsville in 1957 to make his permanent home in the two-story brick house that still stands behind the drug store.
He worked for decades as a mechanic at Tooele Army Depot. He later served there as a Quality Assurance Inspector for the repair of combat vehicles — many of which were used by the military during the Vietnam War. Marvin took particular pride in ensuring those military vehicles were in top notch order because of the young men, including his own two sons, who served as infantry soldiers during the Vietnam conflict.
Marvin was also the owner of several car repair services where he spent many of his evening hours and weekends.
Marvin was preceded in death by his wife Thelma on Feb. 14. He is survived by two sons, Lynn (Mary Riddle) Young, and Gary Young, all of Grantsville. He is also survived by several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Graveside services, including military rites, were held Monday, Nov. 22, at the Grantsville City Cemetery.
