Obituary for Richard Rudolph Jeter in Port Royal, Virginia

Richard R. Jeter (Button) son of the late Theoliver "Jake" and Daisey Richardson Jeter was born September 26, 1923 in Caroline County, VA. He was the fourth of nine children. He peacefully departed this life October 8, 2005 at his home in Bowling Green, VA after a long illness. He was educated in the New Jersey and Caroline public school system. At an early age, he joined First Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Sparta, VA where he met Anna Lou Latrell who was his mate for 25 years until she died in 1972. He served in the United States Navy for seven years. After he left the Navy, he moved to Washington, D. C. There he worked for the United States National Park Service until he retired after 27 years of service. He leaves to cherish his memory, a loving and devoted sister, Mildred Loving of Milford, VA; two brothers, Douglas Jeter of Milford, VA and Lewis Jeter of Clinton, MD; two sisters-in-law, Eileen and Ida Jeter; nine nieces, including one devoted niece, Peggy Fortune; seven nephews, including one that was devoted to caring for him during his illness, Jerrell Hill; sixteen great nieces and eight great nephews; a host of cousins and other relatives and friends.
