Augusta Lehner
UTICA- Mrs. Augusta Lehner, widow of John M., passed away on Tuesday at the home of her daughter, Mr. Howard Messmore, in Utica. Her illness had confined her to bed since last july. She was 86 years of age.
Mrs.Lehner was born in Clinton Township on January 15, 1862.
He parents were the late John C. and Frederika miller.Mrs. Lehner attended the German Evangelical Lutheran Church and School on Hall near Romeo Plank road. There she was confirmed and at the age 18 years she became the bride of John Micheal Lehner, of Mount Clemens.
The young couple made their home in Mount Clemens where Mr.Lehner passed away in 1901. Sixteen years ago Mrs. Lehner came to Utica to live with her daughter.
She is survived by two daughters and one son; Mrs. Howard Messmore of Utica, Mrs.C.W. Newman of Detroit and Walter Lehner of Mount Clemens.
There are eight grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren, she is also survived by three brothers, Julius Miller, of Mount Clemens,August, of Detroit and William, of Glendale, Calif. Two brothers, Carl ad John, preceded her in death.
Services will be conducted from the Schwarzkoff funeral home, Utica at 2:30 o'clock on Friday afternoon. Rev J.L. Kennedy of the Presbyterian Church, Mount Clemens, will officiate. Burial will be in Clinton Grove Cemetery.
Mrs. Lehner was for many years a member of the Presbyterian Church in Mount Clemens, and a member of the ladies' Auxiliary of the church. She was a formerly an active member of the Watchful Circle, Kings' daughters and the Order of Eastern Star.
Her hands were always busy, usually with her knitting. During the first and second World Wars she made many Red Cross articles for the comfort of the soldiers. In late years, many infants wore booties, sacques and bonnets, knitted by "Grandma" Lehner's busy fingers.
