Bobby Ray Barbour, born March 22, 1938 to the parents of Will & Emily Barbour. He attended Cleveland School and worked on the farm until he meet the love of his life, Ersell Johnson Barbour of the Cleveland Community also, their courtship lasted two years until they united in marriage on April 6, 1958. From this marriage they were blessed with four children. Tammy Pulley and husband, Glenn, Melanie Hulth and husband, Paul, Bobby Ray Barbour, II and wife, Pat, Christopher Barbour & wife, Penny all of the Clayton area. Bobby loved his six grandchildren, Justin Pulley, Jessica Toole, Amanda Overby, Will Barbour, Paige Barbour and Brooklynn Barbour. He also cherished his six great grandchildren, Landon & Layla Overby, Skylar & Mason Pulley and Hailey & Lila Toole.

After marriage dad enlisted in the Army 82nd division airborne where he served his country for 20 years; he was often gone for long periods of time. He served 3 years in Germany and two tours in Vietnam and two years in Okinawa. Dad received numerous medals and achieved the second highest level in the military for an enlisted soldier, Master Sergeant. After retirement from the Army he finished out his career as a correctional officer at NC Central Prison, after 17 years of service he retired and turned his full attention to his wife and her failing health until her death in 2010. Dad was a member of Baptist Center Church where he served as a deacon and worshipped and praised his Lord Jesus Christ. Dad was a loving man of few words who had a passion for those in need and the underprivileged. He will be greatly missed by family and friends; but as dad would say I have fought the good fight but it is time now to go be with the Lord and Mom.

The family will receive friends and relatives on Thursday from 7:00 to 9:00p.m. at McLaurin Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held 1:30 Friday, June 7 at Baptist Center Church with Rev. Doug Baker and Rev. Ray Carr officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
