A personal note: When I was a boy, Bob Purser often visited my grandfather (Bob's uncle) at his house in Dayton, Tennessee, where I lived. I recall sitting on the front porch during several of these summer visits and listening to family stories. According to my aunt Jack (Flora May Purser Foust), who was a first cousin several years younger than Bob, he was given the name Albert Lillard at birth. However, he always went by the name Robert, was called Bob, and the name Robert appears on almost, if not all, documents I have found (births were not recorded in Tennessee until almost three decades after his birth). This is further complicated by the fact that Bob had an older brother, named Robert Miller Purser, who had died at birth on 17 Jan 1876, and is buried in Spence Cemetery, Rhea County (along with his parents and several siblings). (Tom Purser, 23 Nov 2012).
