Johann "John" Matthias Dahler was born in Bosinghoven, Creis-Crefeld, Rhineland, Pruessen, Germany. He married Sybilla "Christina" Mary Ingmans, born 1810 Creis-Crefeld, Preussen,Germany and together they came to America around 1839 with their daughter Maria Elizabeth, son Carl, and son Charles Dahler. Sybilla Christina died within the first ten years of arrival from illness. Their son Carl Friederich Lorenz Dahler died within the first year of arrival in America. His daughter Maria Elizabeth and her husband Goswin Hermann Bartmann are found living with John later in his life. He was the postmaster general for Osage, Missouri. His son Charles settled in Helena and Silver Bow Montana. Son Charles became a famous Banker in Montana. The only known descendants of this family come from the grandson of Charles Dahler, his son Charles L. Dahler Jr. married Anona Madonna Weidner in Laurin, Montana. There Anona and Charles L. Dahler Jr. had a set of twins, only one survived: Donald Raymond Dahler. Donald Raymond Dahler married Eleonore Leiendecker in Frankfurt, Germany while serving as a Medic in the Army. They were both serving at the Red Cross Station. Donald and Eleonore had 2 sons, living. There are also many grandchildren and great grandchildren from this line. It is thought that there were no other descendants from the Charles L. Dahler SR family because they were miners in Montana; the chemicals they used in the placer mines to separate the Gold from the large ore rocks were arsenic and mercury. These poisonous chemicals can affect sterility. There are documented studies of birth defects occurring from this area, and many infant deaths; they even have a separate cemetery called the "Baby Cemetery" with over 500 infants there; some passed from disease, others unknown. The living descendants were not raised in Montana; Anona Madonna Weidner moved to Portland, Oregon and continued to raise Donald Raymond Dahler in that area, as well as his descendants. None of the other descendants of Charles Lawrence Dahler SR. had any children. Maria Elizabeth and Goswin Bartmann had no children either, but were never in the area of the Montana mines.
