Nile R. Blood, 78, of Springfield, Illinois died July 7, 2002, at his home.
He was born Nov. 24, 1923, in West Salem, the son of S. Lynn and Elsie Miller Blood. He married Ona Ruth Riddle in 1946 in Harvey.
Mr. Blood graduated from high school in 1941 and from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1949. He was a civil engineer for the state Department of Transportation at the district office in Effingham from 1949-67 and in Springfield from 1967-87.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the 104th Infantry Division. He served in Belgium, Holland and Germany and received a Purple Heart. He was a representative for 413-A Company of the National Timberwolf Association.
He was a member of Tau Beta Pi, Chi Epsilon fraternity, Illinois Association of Highway Engineers, Illinois Society of Professional Engineers, Springfield Motor Boat Club and West Side Christian Church.
Survivors: wife, Ona Ruth; a son, Tom Blood of Springfield; a daughter, Ellen Blood of Naperville; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Services at Ingram Funeral Home in West Salem, the Rev. Lawrence Beebe officiating. Interment in Moravian Cemetery in West Salem.
