He was born in Los Angeles, CA to the late Fran J. and Helen G. Hanrahan. He attended Long Beach City College and BYU where he competed on the track team in the long jump and triple jump. He became an All American for the long jump in 1967. He received his BS degree from Long Beach State College. He married Cathy in the Los Angeles LDS temple and was married for 44 years.
Robert was an industrial engineer for Lockheed Martin until his retirement. His passion was raising carnivorous plants and he often boasted that he had "the largest carnivorous plant collection next to Mother Nature". His love for these plants evolved into a several businesses. He also enjoyed being a Ham radio operator for over 50 years.
He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He had a gift for working with young people mentoring them in many activities, such as coaching track and teaching scouts and enthusiastically enlightening many youth as a Sunday School teacher. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.
Funeral Services were held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 2595 New Macland Rd. Powder Springs, GA.
