Edith M. Hill (Grandma), age 102, daughter of Andrew and Hannah (Jones) Barlass, passed away Mon., Oct. 30, 1995, at the Evansville Manor Nursing Home where she has made her home for the last 6 1/2 years. Edith was born May 14, 1893, in Emerald Grove. She grew up and made her home there until her marriage to George Hill of La Prairie Township on Oct. 16, 1916. They farmed the Barlass homestead until George passed away in 1933. She continued to farm until moving to Janesville in 1944. Edith was a lifelong member of Emerald Grove Church and belonged to the L.M.B.S. Society, the Gold Star Mothers, the 192nd Tank Battalion Auxiliary. She was an avid card player and belonged to many card clubs. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a son, First Lt. Fifth Grade Raymond Hill who died in the Philippines following the death march during World War II; a granddaughter, Dolores Quade; and a great-grandson, Mark Sisson. Funeral services will be held at Emerald Grove Church on Fri., Nov. 3, at 11:30 a.m. Burial will take place at the Emerald Grove Cemetery.
