Walter F. Nelson, age 65, of Bemidji, MN, died Saturday, January 03, 2004, at North Country Regional Hospital in Bemidji. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Bemidji.


Walter's grandchildren will serve as honorary casket bearers. Casket bearers will be Clair Depew, Doug Depew, Dennis Depew, Allan Morey, Don Hill and Bill Trepanier.


Walter Frank Nelson was born on March 18, 1938 in Bemidji, the son of Frank and Doris (Morey) Nelson. Through the eighth grade he attended Sunnyside School. He also attended Bemidji High School. On March 30, 1955 Walter married Carol Depew in Bemidji. A carpenter by trade Walter worked constructing dams across the country: Big Bend Dam in South Dakota, Yellowtail Dam in Montana, and John Day Dam in Oregon. He and his family returned to Bemidji in 1969. Here he worked at Bemidji State University as a carpentry foreman. Later, as the owner of Walt's TV, he repaired televisions. Following the sale of the shop he worked in home construction.


Walter enjoyed woodworking , gardening, and spending time in his shop. He was a member of the Eagles Club in Bemidji.


He is survived by his wife Carol of Bemidji; sons Daniel Nelson of North Bend, OR, Ricky Nelson of Page, AZ, and Randy Nelson of Blaine, MN; daughter Teresa (Greg) Sattler of Blaine; seven grandchildren, his mother Doris Nelson of Bemidji, and his sister Judy (Bill) Tolman of Florida.


Walter was preceded in death by his father and his son Bradley.
