Alma Ruth "Coot" Jones passed away March 25, 2012, at Wisteria Manor in Clarke County after a lengthy illness. She was 84.

The visitation will be Tuesday, March 27, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Wright Funeral Home in Quitman. The funeral will be Wednesday, March 28, at 10 a.m. in the Wright Funeral Home chapel.

Mrs. Jones was born Aug. 6, 1927, in Clarke County and graduated from Quitman High School and Jones County Junior College. She was active in First Baptist Church of Quitman and Clarke Academy, where her children attended school.

A skilled cook and conversationalist, she enjoyed spending time with family and friends and hosting visitors in her home. Those who stopped by for a chat and a cup of coffee also could count on a delicious homemade dessert. She loved making annual trips to the beach with her children and grandchildren, and through her thoughtful and detailed preparations, she would make every vacation fun and memorable.

Mrs. Jones' favorite holiday was Christmas, as evidenced by her brightly decorated home during the holiday season. Waking up to find out what special gifts she'd left in everyone's Christmas stockings was a beloved family tradition, along with so many others that will be missed with her passing.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Monroe and [name] Boutwell; her sister, Jay Tappan; and her first husband, Alley Ladner Sr.

She is survived by her husband, Carter Jones; two daughters, Chellie Herrington (Checky) of Brandon and Pam Myrick (Stephen) of Quitman; a son, Al Ladner Jr. of Quitman; and five grandchildren, Sara Herrington Adams of Memphis, Tenn., Daniel Herrington of Austin, Texas, and Hayden Myrick, Levi Myrick and Sydney Myrick of Quitman.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to First Baptist Church of Quitman.
