Francis J. Baker of Braintree, a Boston firefighter, died yesterday in Quincy Hospital as a result of injuries sustained when he slipped down a staircase in a fire in Dorchester on Oct. 12. He was 62.

Mr. Baker was born in Braintree. He graduated from Brighton High School. He served in the Marine Corps during the Korean War.

He had been a member of the Boston Fire Department for 35 years. He was an avid photographer and member of the Boston Sparks Association of fire buffs.

He leaves his wife, Barbara A. (McLain); three daughters, Deborah A. Healey of Oregon, Theresa M. O'Connell of South Boston and Beverly J. Freeman of West Roxbury; three sons, Francis J. Jr. of Whitman, James N. of Canton and William E. of Braintree; his mother, Margaret C. (Keith) of Hyde Park; two sisters, Beverly C. Baker of Hyde Park and Geraldine Ferreira of Medfield; a brother, William of Hyde Park; and 13 grandchildren.

A funeral Mass will be said at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Holy Ghost Church in Whitman. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery in Dorchester.
