An avid golfer, Red Sox fan and sailor, she loved to travel, having circumnavigated the globe.
Her loving and devoted husband, Donald H. Kern, Capt. USN (Ret.) and his family survive her, along with her sons, William Carr of Henniker and Robert Carr II of Hopkinton; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; six brothers, William Chagnon of Pittsfield, Dell Chagnon of Morgan Hill, Calif., Fred Chagnon of Chichester, Larry Chagnon of Barnstead, Richard Chagnon of Milton, Vt., and Terrance Chagnon of Barnstead; and three sisters, Audrey Bates of Epsom, Caroline Plummer of Springville, N.Y., and Sherry Bracket of Chichester.
A daughter, Kathleen, a grandson, Robbie, and a brother and sister predeceased her.
Catherine married her first husband (Robert E. Carr) June 17, 1950. They had three children. There were two boys -- William and Robert who are still living. There was a daughter who died early.
In early 1950s, Catherine was a Stenographer at a Concord NH firm - Morse & Grant.
