Floyd Harvey Curtis, born in Canton Township, was the 2nd child and 2nd son born to Charles and Lotta Curtis. He, along with his brothers and sisters, went through the Sheldon school district and he graduated High School, unlike his father before him who only had an 8th grade education. By 1928 at 23 years of age he was working in Dearborn as a mechanic for Dodge Sales and Service and Schraders Auto Sales and on July 20th in 1929 he married his sweetheart Bertha Gates. By 1932 he had his own auto repair shop on Michigan avenue and at one time was a co owner of a John Deere Franchise. About 1940 or slightly earlier he closed shop and went to work for Harold Dietrich Buick in Wayne, where he spent the next 30 years of his life as their "unofficial chief mechanic" retiring in 1967. At home he had his own garage where he would work on repairing other peoples cars and also took care of Brownie Cabs fleet usually after supper and on the weekends. Floyd, also known as Ira, liked to hunt deer and pheasant and had his own pack of hunting dogs. A 35 year resident of Wayne, he and wife Bertha had 2 children and 6 grandchildren who would visit often in the summer months. They regularly traveled to Illinois, Florida and New Jersey to spend the holidays with their family.
Floyd was a man of few words, a great dish washer, could wiggle his ears and fix a car before it was even broken (almost) beloved by his grandchildren, relied on by family and friends and greatly missed along life's way.
