Daughter of Joseph Edward Carter (1813-abt 1855) and Elizabeth Ann Carruth (1824-abt 1899).

1st Wife of William David Wilson (married April 24 1860, Tishomingo Co. MS)

William David Wilson came back from the Civil War and took son William Edward Wilson to Texas (aprox 1868). He abandoned Nancy Elizabeth Carter Wilson and Rachael Caroline Wilson. They never saw him again. He did write some letters to Rachael up until her death in 1887. In 1875, he married Kate Q. McClure and had 6 more children in Texas and lived out the rest of his life in Arkansas.

He did not disclose his first marrage to his new family until his death where he willed his grandsons William Austin Williams and Hosie Curtis Williams each a dollar.

His first son William Edward Wilson (b. 1860) died in a Texas Mental Hospital sometime between 1900-1910.

Rachael's family never knew where William David Wilson had gone. When I got into genealogy in the mid 90's, my mother told me about this story. We still had no knowledge of his whereabouts. I used online resources to track him down and found him in the censuses. I traced his movements to Arkansas. I found his will in the courthouse in Logan County, Arkansas. It verified that Caroline was his first wife and that he had 2 grandsons which one was my great grandfather William Austin Williams. So a 130 year mystery was solved.
