Knight of Stoke Gifford and Uley, Gloucester, of Milton Wiltshire. Knight of the Shire for Gloucestershire, Sheriff of Gloucestershire.

Son and heir to sir Maurice de Berkeley and Joan Dynham. Grandson of Sir Thomas de Berkeley, great grandson of Sir Maurice de Berkeley.

Husband of Eleanor (Ellen) Montfort, daughter of Sir William Montfort and Margaret Pecche, daughter of Sir John. They were married before 1428, the date of receipt, and had one son, Sir William, Knight of Bath.

Sir Maurice was born posthumously, and was co-heir to his cousin, Joyce Botetourt, the wife of John Burnell, by which he inherited one third of the barony of Botetourt, including the castle of Weoley in Northfield, Worcestershire, which he used as his main residence, along with the manors of Northfield and Cradley in Halesown, Worcestershire.

Berkeley served in France in the army of John, Duke of Bedford. In 1446, Thomas, Bishop of Worcester and William Wynde, master of the house of St Mark, Bristol, were summoned to the king;s court to answer to Berkeley on a plea that they should permit him to present a suitable person to the church of the house of At Mark of Bristol, but the suit was decided against Berkeley.

Maurice and his widow were both buried at the Lord Mayor's Chapel in St Mark's, Bristol.
