Harrison Wilson Wallace
May 24, 1918 — April 28, 2013
Harrison Wilson Wallace, known as Harry by his friends, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 28, at the Regency in Albany. He was born May 24, 1918, in Ingram Island to Kestner and Mabel (Ingram) Wallace. He was less than one month shy of celebrating his 95th birthday. In 1924 Harry moved with his parents to Dawson, west of Bellfountain. Harry attended Bellfountain throughout his entire grade school and high school years. He met Treva in the fifth grade and they graduated from high school together in 1937. After graduation Harry joined his dad at the mill. One month out of high school, Harry received his first $75 paycheck from his job at the mill. So on July 3, 1937, Harry and Treva eloped, tying the knot in Kelso, Wash. They celebrated 72 years of marriage! Following their wedding, Harry worked in logging and sawmills. He joined the service in 1943 and was sent to the Philippines. He returned to the states in 1945. In 1947, Harry's cousin and Treva's two brothers-in-law went into the lumber and logging business. After nearly 35 years, Harry retired in 1981. Harry was an avid hunter, fisherman, bowler and basketball team player. He gave 100 percent in all he did. Harry was the last surviving member of the "Giant Killers" Bellfountain basketball team that won the state championship in 1937. Harry and Treva were members of the Corvallis Church of the Nazarene since 1952. Harry served as chairman of the church board and assistant Sunday school superintendent. He turned the first shovelful of dirt at the groundbreaking service at 27th Street and Greeley Avenue. The couple had three children, daughter Treva Janene, and twins Mary Ellen and Billy Allen. Harry was preceded in death by his wife, Treva, who died May 17, 2010; two of his children, Billy Allen, who died in an accident in May of 1951, and Mary Ellen, who died in November of 2009. He is survived by his daughter Treva Janene Milis of Palm Desert, Calif.; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. A celebration of life service will take place at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 4, at Life Community Church. A graveside committal will follow at 3 p.m. at Bellfountain Cemetery. The family suggests memorial donations be directed to Healing Hearts Ministries, P.O. Box 2265, Corvallis, OR 97330; Life Community Church; or a charity of choice, in care of McHenry Funeral Home, 206 N.W. Fifth St., Corvallis, OR 97330.
