A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served during the Vietnam War.
Surviving are a daughter, Shawn (William) Welsh of Wilmington; a son, Brad Lowery of Diamond; his fiancee, Vicke Womack of Wilmington; two grandchildren, Marcus Welsh and Kylinn Lowery; five brothers, Donald (Lorraine) Lowery of Joliet, Ray (Jane) Lowery, Gale (Shirley) Lowery, Jimmy Lowery and Larry Dean Lowery, all of Fairfield; two sisters, Sue (Larry) Lambert of Robinson and Connie (Clarence) Skurat of Woodlawn; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his sister, Brenda Brooks and an infant brother.
