Almer Doyce "Beau" Black, age 73, of Black Springs, died Thursday, April 25, 2013.

He was born on May 4, 1939, at Sunshine, the son of William Black and Delia Jackson Black. He was preceded in death by his wife of 38 wonderful years, Mary Lee Black on December 3, 2010. He was also preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers, WC Black, William "Dub" Black and Charles Black.

A U.S. Army veteran, he was educated in computer programming having helped to create the first computer language, Cobalt, and later was the owner and CEO of Computer Corp. Upon retirement, he decided to pursue his childhood dream of owning a simple little country grocery store in a small southern town, when he and Mary discovered just the right place, Black Springs, and within a few years of moving back to his home state they opened Black Springs Country Store. After so many years of having to drive many miles for milk and groceries, Beau, realized he had not only fulfilled his dream but had provided him and Mary with a life of convenience.

He had a great passion for animals, but was very partial to dogs, even those strays that would find their way to his home; he enjoyed watching baseball and football, especially the Dallas Cowboys; and gardening.

He was known as "Beau" to many and to many others "Uncle Doyce", but all knew him and will forever remember him as "Dear, Compassionate and Strong".

He is survived by his loving son and daughter, Paul Black and Donna Black, both of Black Springs; his granddaughter, Charity Jean Hernandez and her husband, Lewis; his grandson, Kyle Doice Black; his sister, Eunice Bentley; his sister-in-law, Betty Black; his nephew/friend, Bill Burmaster; three nieces, Renee Morgan and her husband, Dietrich, Barbara Moshinski and her husband, Charles, Sandra Berks and her husband, Ron; two nephews, Warren Allen Black and Charles Clay Black and his wife, Sharon; his great-niece, Shannon Loftis and her husband, Edd; his great-nephew, Paul Burmaster; several other great-nieces and great-nephews; many wonderful friends throughout his life; and one very special friend whom he loved like a daughter, Rhonda J. Petty.

Services will be held at 10:00 AM, Monday, April 29, 2013, in the Davis-Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Glenwood.

Visitation will be Sunday, 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM.

Interment with military honors will be in the Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Hot Springs, under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Glenwood.

Pallbearers will be Kyle Doyce Black, Lancelot A. Mason, Rhonda J. Petty, Albert Petty, Kim V. Crees and Donny R. Lee.
