Russell Ervin Sword was born near Eldora, Iowa, on May 6, 1917, the son of Elmer Clinton Sword and Florence May Arnold Sword. Russell and Josephine May Marshall, both residents of Eldora, were married Monday evening January 16, 1939, in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Carroll Palmer, southwest of Eldora, with the Rev. Dewey Lamprecht officiating.


Russell was a member of the Liscomb Church of Christ, and secretary-treasurer of the South Hardin Kiwanis Club. He was a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge at Liscomb, and was that group's former District Deputy President. He was also a member of Gideons International. The Gideons are known for placing Bibles in hotels, but they also work with schools and colleges, prisons and jails, hospitals and medical offices.


Russell E. Sword, of rural Union, passed away on Wednesday afternoon, September 22, 1982, at their Liscomb farm home at age 65. Russell is survived by his wife, his mother, a son, 3 grandchildren, and a brother. He was preceded in death by his father, a son, and by a sister.


Arrangements were by and Visitation was at the Biersborn Funeral Home, Union, Iowa. Funeral services were Saturday, September 24, 1982, at the Liscomb Church of Christ, with Rev.
