"GREENSBURG - Charles Robert (Red) Austin, 62, of 1777 Greensburg Rd. died Oct. 20, at Barberton Citizens Hospital. Born in Sparta, Tenn., he was an area resident most of his life. He worked for the Firestone Tire and Rubber Company in the synthetic latex division for 35 years. He retired with 25 years service as a bus driver for the Green Township School System. He was a member of the V.F.W. Post No. 3383, the American Legion No. 566, the O.A.V. Chapter No. 35, and was a World War II U.S. Army veteran serving in the 37th Division, 53rd Infantry in the South Pacific. He is survived by wife, Ethel I.; mother, Fannie, of Akron; sons... daughters... brother, Gauvain Austin, of Sparta, Tenn.; sister, Mary McCarthy, of Akron, and seven grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Friday 1 p.m. at the Schermesser Funeral Home, SUBURBAN SOUTH CHAPEL, 600 E. Turkeyfoot Lake Rd., (Route 619), Rev. E.C. Smith officiating. Interment Greensburg Cemetery. Calling hours will be Thursday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m."
