Robert E. "Bob" Baker, age 79, longtime resident of the Bixby Homes in both Ovid and Interlaken, passed away on Monday, February 25, 2013.

Bob was born on October 19, 1933 In Elmira, NY, a son of the late William G. and Martha (McKibbin) Baker. He entered the US Air Force through Sampson AFB in 1952 and was honorably discharged in 1954.

Bob lived a full and rich life despite his disabilities. He travelled extensively as a participant in the Golden Age Games, competing in shuffleboard, air rifle and bowling. He was a volunteer at the VA Hospital in Canandaigua and attended the Day Treatment Program for many years. Bob was a supporter of the local VFW and a member of the Sampson Museum. Bob was a faithful attendee of the Interlaken Reformed Church. He was a very kind and respectful gentleman, that will be greatly missed by his many friends.

Bob is survived by his brother; Gerald G. Baker and a nephew Gerald J. Baker, both of Pine City; a niece, Sue (Donald) Saunders of Elmira; a sister, Betty Goodwin of Vestal; his caretakers, Richard and Deborah Bixby of Ovid, and their family. He was preceded in death by his brother, Thomas.

Visitation will be held from 10:00am to 11:00am on Monday, March, 4, 2013 at Covert Funeral Home, 7199 So. Main Street in Ovid. A funeral service will then be held at 11:00am on Monday, officiated by Rev. Jason Fulkerson of the Interlaken Reformed Church, burial with military honors will be held at Sampson Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Romulus.
