Walter B. Cobb, 88, of Tinton Falls, passed away on Saturday, November 24th, 2012
He enlisted then served in World War II with the 5th Air Force, 3rd Bomber Group, 89th Bomber Squadron flying 36 critical missions.
When he returned, Walt worked at Fort Monmouth, NJ for 33 years as a very sought after, skilled machinist/tool, and die maker, inventor serving as well in as a a consultant after retiring in 1980.
A proud active member of the VFW Post 2179, Middletown, New Jersey.
He served as a 68 year member of the Wayside Community Fire Company also charter member of the New Jersey State Board of Fire Commissioners of Fire District #1, serving 7 years.
He served, was elected for decades by a wide majority each time as Fire Marshall for the Borough of New Shrewsbury (now Borough of Tinton Falls) Monmouth County. He was a member of the New Jersey State also Monmouth County Fire Chief's Associations, as well leading the Tinton Falls Emergency Medical Services (EMS) , the Oakhurst First Aid, and the Fort Monmouth First Aid squads.
Walter is survived by his loving devoted wife of 66 years, Marie F. Cobb; having three children; daughter, Linda J. Wiland and husband Charles of Littleton, Colorado; son, Walter Alan Cobb and wife Stacy of Stafford Township, New Jersey; and son, Gary H. Cobb and wife Patricia of Oceanport, New Jersey. He is also survived by GODs gifts of wonderful 6 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
A funeral service was held 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 29 at the funeral home. Interment will follow at
Monmouth Memorial Park.
