Major Sherry Ann Porter Tomley went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, April 23, 2013. Born on October 5, 1961, in St. Louis, Mo., she resided with her family in Moneta, Va. Sherry is survived by her husband, Joe Tomley; her two sons, Christopher and Eric; parents, Joe R. and Shirley; father and mother-in-law, Albert and Norma; two sisters, Audrey and Crystal; one brother, Matthew; seven nieces and five nephews.
In Sherry's mind, her greatest achievements were being a wife, a mom, a sister and a daughter. Sherry was a generous and loving person and found pleasure in doing for others whether family, friend or military always exceeding 100%.
A Funeral Service will be held at the Oakey's Roanoke Chapel, 318 Church Ave., Roanoke, VA at 10 a.m. on Friday, April 26, 2013, with Pastor Mike Lawhorn officiating. Military Honors and Graveside Services will follow at 2:45 p.m. at the Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery, 5550 Bagging Plant Road, Dublin, VA.
