Dorothy Evelyn Shaw was born on 16 August 1918 in Mishawaka, St. Joseph Co., Indiana. Her parents were Gertrude Dorothy (Sipress) and Robert E. Shaw. Her parents divorced when she was about 2 years old. Her father then married Myra Young. Robert and Myra raised Dorothy.
On 18 April 1936 she married Irvin E. Babcock in South Bend, St. Joseph Co., Indiana. The couple had 2 children; Loretta Lee and Carole Jean. The family resided in the St. Joseph County area.
Dorothy died on 10 Sept. 1975 in South Bend. she was 57 years old.

My most cherished memory of Dorothy happened when I was about 15 years old. We were at a family gathering and I wasn't feeling well. Dorothy was sitting alone on a couch. She had me come over and sit beside her and then she told me to lay down and put my head on her lap. She then gently stroked my hair and spoke softly to me. It was very relaxing and comforting. To this day I feel better when I think of Dorothy.
Dorothy is a relative by marriage. Dorothy's husband, Irvin Babcock and my mother, Edna (Love) Taylor were 1st cousins. Dorothy's daughter's, Loretta, Carole and I are 2nd cousins. Barb Szabo 2022
