Narrative: St. Cloud Times, St Cloud, Minnesota, 16 August 1921
One of the most impressive funerals ever held in Albany took place yesterday afternoon at three o'clock when last respects were paid to Beno Auer, an Albany war hero, who sacrificed his life in the world war. The military funeral was held in the Seven Dolors church, which was filled with the many friends and relatives of the dead soldier. Six comrades of the deceasd, who participated in the war served as pallbearers in uniform. They also fired the salute at the grave. The casket was draped in the American flag and profusions of flowers sent from the military organizations from the Twin Cities, as well as the American Legion of his hometown.
Beno Auer was the youngest of five sons of Mr. and Mrs. John Auer of Albany, and a nephew of J. D. Auer of St. Cloud. He was born a few miles west of Albany on a farm, where the family resided until several years ago when they became citizens of that village. At the time of his death, which occurred on November 4, 1918, he was 23 years of age. For several years previous to entering the army he attended the schools in St. Cloud. He spent almost a year in this country in training in the camps before he was sent overseas.
Beno Auer is survived by his parents and four brothers, Leo of St. Cloud; Frank, August [sic] and William of Albany. Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Auer of this city attended the funeral.
