OBITUARY: The following obituary appeared in THE DALLAS MORNING NEWS on Monday, February 14, 2000: "Dr. Arthur Raymond THOMASSON, Jr, born October 11, 1914 in Dallas, son of Dr. & Mrs. Arthur R. THOMASSON, Sr. He graduated from Terrill Preparatory School and earned a Batchelor of Science degree from S.M.U. (Southern Methodist University) in 1937. Also graduated from L.S.U. (Louisiana State University) School of Medicine in New Orleans, completing his residency at St. Paul Hospital.

He married his wife Mary (AUSTIN) in 1942 (1 Sept 1942) and practiced internal medicine for 45 years. He was a member of the Dallas County Medical Society, Texas Medical Association, and A.M.A. (American Medical Assoication). He also served on the Foundation Board of St. Paul Hospital. He was devoted to his practice of medicine but also had many interests. He was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church for 50 years. He was also an avid golfer and enjoyed the game of bridge. He was a member of a number of clubs and organizations, including Northwood Club and Preston Trails.

He was best known for his great love of his family, his compassion, and sense of humor. He dedicated his life to his strong sense of helping others by devoting his time to medicine. He wad often heard to say "always treat your patients as you would a member of your family," as so often demonstrated in many of his patients becoming close personal friends.

Survived by his wife of 57 years, Mary, children: Alan Ray THOMASSON of Creede, CO, daughter Marian JURGENSEN and her husband William of Dallas; two grandchildren: Jennifer and Diane JURGENSEN; sister: Mary Anne TODD; sister-in-law: Catherine LEAKE, both of Dallas; and brother-in-law: Dabney AUSTIN of Fort Worth. Also survived by nephews and nieces: Harry, Ray, and Tommy TODD of Dallas and Michael AUSTIN of Fort Worth and Anne (TODD) BARFIELD or Wimberly.

Recitation of the Rosary at 7:00 pm Monday February 14th at Sparkman-Hillcrest Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Tuesday February 15, 2000 at 10:00 am at Christ the King Catholic Church, Rev. Msgr. Donald F. Zimmerman, celebrant. Entombment: Calvary Hill Mausoleum. If desired, memorials may be made to Cistercian Preparatory School, One Cistercian Road, Irving, TX 75039-4599 or Discalced Carmelite Nuns, 600 Flowers Avenue, Dallas, TX 75211.
