Ira Roach of Abilene, died Tuesday November 12, 2002 in a local nursing home. Graveside services are at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday at Elmwood cemetery with Reverend Herbert Wood officiating directed by North's Funeral Home, 242 Orange. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Funeral Home, 242 Orange.

Mr. Roach was born in Floral, Arkansas and was raised in Paris, Texas. He graduated from Brookston High School and Paris commercial college with a degree in business administration. He moved to Abilene in 1977.He retired from the United States Army as chief warrant officer having served in operations in Frankfort, Germany. He was a top secret control officer to Fort McArthur in California; Fort Polk, Lousiana; Tokyo, Japan; Paris, France; Presidio of San Fransisco; Fort Ord, California; and Fort Douglas in Utah. He was awarded Army occupation medal (Japan & Germany); Asiatic Pacific Campaign medal, Mere Toricies unit, citation marksman, carbine good conduct medal. He was also in the civil service for 15 years, retiring from Chase Field Navel Base in Beeville, Texas.

He is survived by his wife, Jane, of Abilene; two brothers, Leland of Scottsdale, Arizona and James of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; one sister, Colleen Arthur of San Diego, California. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elbert C. Roach and Maria (Pearson) Roach; one brother, Perry; and one sister, Frances Roach.
