I love you Big Daddy. I know the Gates of Heaven opened up for you today. You will be so VERY DEARLY MISSED!!

Vernon Johnson left this world to be reunited with the love of his life, his wife of 62 years, Helen, on 4/15/2013.

He was born in Lamesa, Texas 6/12/1926, but raised in Hull, TX. He graduated from Hull High School where he played football and played his trumpet during halftime with the high school marching band. He served in the Navy during WWII and met his bride to be, Helen, in Seattle, Washington. They married and came to TX with their six month old daughter, Sherron, in 1947.

He started his civilian career as a Rainbo bread delivery truck driver in Beaumont. They moved to Liberty and he went to work for Halliburton in 1950. Daughter, Marilyn came along in 1952. He remained with Halliburton in Liberty for 20 years. He went to work with B&C Well Service in 1970 and remained with them for 18 years and shortly for 2 years with Pengo after they bought B&C. He retired in 1990. He was active at the Elk's Lodge until retirement and is a lifetime member of the VFW. He loved to cook and was always in demand for bar-b-ques and company functions. He was a member of a Houston Rodeo cook-off team, the Liberty Burners. They never won, but if they'd give a prize for the most fun team, they surely would have won!!! He will be remembered as someone who could make you laugh with his stories. People were drawn to his happy go lucky personality. When you were a friend of Vernon's, you were a friend for life.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Maxine, his parents, Hubert and Edith Johnson, his wife, Helen and his son-in-law, Jerry "Clay" Prescott. He is survived by his daughters, Sherron Prescott and Marilyn Luedtke and her husband, Ron, his grand-daughters, Vicky Waltrip and LeAnne Goudeau, his great grandchildren, Ryan, Kandace, Rachel, Tayler and Blake and his 3 great great grandchildren, Payton, Layton and Xayden.

The family wants to give a special thanks to all the nurses from Angels Above Us, Inc who gave Dad special care and support during the past several years. They were all carrying angels, but we want to send a very special "thank you" to Chare' Drake. We also want to thank special family friends, Mae Joyce Down, Evelyn Smith, Sue Wiggins, Pam Sellars, Tommie Greak, Debbie Hanagriff and their families for a lifetime of friendship. We have shared our successes, our failures, our happy moments and those sad times too, but they have been steadfast with their support and love.

Services for Vernon Johnson will be Saturday, April 20, 2013 at 10am at Allison Funeral Service, 1101 North Travis, Liberty, TX. Visitation will be Friday, April 19, 2013 from 5pm to 8pm at Allison Funeral Service. Condolences can be sent online to www.allisonfuneralservice.com.
