JOSEPH E. BECKHAM, 59, of Wichita, Kansas, passed away Saturday, April 13, 2013 at his home.

Born December 29, 1953 in El Dorado, Kansas, he was the son of Arvel Beckham, Jr. and Patricia Haaga. His family lived in Latham and moved to Burden while Joe was in grade school. He was raised in Burden, graduating Burden High School in 1972. Joe enlisted in the United States Marines in May of 1972, and was inducted just two weeks after his high school graduation. He served in the First Combat Engineering Batallion during the Vietnam Conflict. He re-enlisted in March of 1974 and served as a Heavy Equipment Operator and later was an instructor to new enlistments on proper gun use. Joe received a Rifle Expert Badge, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Meritorious Mast, the Vietnam Campaign Medal and the Kansas Medallion for Vietnam Service. He was honorably discharged as a Sergeant in February 1977.

Joe owned and operated his own trucking company where he was an over the road truck driver for himself and leased to other companies. He was currently working for Professional Cargo Services.

His family includes: His son: Michael Beckham of Yucaipa, CA; His brothers: Larry Beckham and wife, Lorrie of Bristow, OK; Larry Murray and Milton Murray both of Marionville, MO; His sisters: Lovetta Miles, Brenda Ramsey and Tonya Adams and husband, Tom all of Overland Park, KS; His grandson: Chase Beckham; and His 16 nieces and nephews and 11 great nieces and nephews.

Joe was preceded in death by his birth mother, Patricia Haaga, his parents, Arvel Beckham, Jr., and Marjorie Beckham, and his niece, Shawna Murray.

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, April 18, 2013 at 10:30 A.M. at Miles Funeral Service. Interment and Military Committal Honors will follow at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery. The family will greet friends that morning beginning at 9:00 until service time.

A Memorial has been established in Joe's name for the Harvest Time Church in Wichita. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
