Robert Roe "Bob" Shawley was born January 6, 1932 to Percy L. and Ernestine (Roe) Shawley and raised in Westchester County, New York. He died June 9, 2011 at home in Napa, California at age 79.

His wife, Mary (Haller) Shawley died June 29, 2007 in Napa, CA at age 76, after nearly 50 years of marriage. They met and fell in love at the University of Michigan, while he was studying for a master's degree, and they married September 28, 1957 in Jasper, Indiana. Mary was born Oct 14, 1931.

Bob graduated from Bronxville High School and earned a degree in marketing from N.Y. University. During the Korean War, he enlisted in the army and later served in the U.S. Air Force as a commissioned officer. They settled in Chappaqua, NY, raising three children. Bob worked for the William Esty Co. and BBDO advertising agencies in NY City. In 1971, he was transferred to the BBDO office in San Francisco and moved with his family to Tiburon where he said the view from the house and the ferryboat ride to work were the best! In 1978, he left advertising and opened the Woodmill, a furniture store in Napa.

Bob's great joys in life were his wife and children, traveling and the great outdoors. Hunting, fishing, backpacking, mountain climbing, white water rafting and other outdoor activities were a big part of his life. He was also an avid shooter; a life member of the NRA and the California Rifle & Pistol Association. He was a president and honorary life member of the Napa Rifle & Pistol Club where he started a series of handgun classes for women, participating as a certified instructor in the club's junior rifle shooting program and other courses.

When the children graduated from college, Bob and Mary did more traveling. They had previously been to Canada, Jamaica and Mexico; now they took several trips to Europe where Bob's sister, Nancy, had lived for more than 40 years. They also visited friends and relatives throughout the USA.
