Sophie was the granddaughter of Anthony Dey Schuyler who was born December 18, 1785 and married Susan/Sara Ridg October 25, 1810. He was the son of Aaron Schuyler and Esther Dey. He had a brother Peter Schuyler born in 1788 who married Caroline Brother. The correct Anthony Dey Schuyler has either not been memorialized or his dates have been recorded incorrectly as Montgomery Schuyler born in 1814 could NOT have been born BEFORE his father Anthony Schuyler born in 1821 here on FindAGrave. There is an Anthony Dey Schuyler who went to a pauper's grave but that is unlikely considering the family's situation. To take it further Aaron Schuyler was the son of Arent Schuyler who was the son of Casparus Schuyler who was the son of Arent Schuyler who was the son of Philip Pieterse Schuyler.

His second wife was Lydia E. Roosevelt with whom he had three children -Montgomery Roosevelt Schuyler, Frank Schuyler who died as a child and Reverend Louis S Schuyler who died in September 1878 a victim of yellow fever in Memphis where he had gone to aid those suffering from the disease. In January 1885 an article in the St Louis Globe- Democrat -Missouri reported on an "Elaborate Birthday for Miss Nettie Price on her 8th birthday." Among the fifty children there were Sophie and her brother Eugene Schuyler. Sophie was in a white dress with pink sash and shoulder knot. It doesn't record what Eugene wore but Don Carr was in a Highland costume of black velvet and tartan plaid; a scarf fastened on the shoulder by a rhinestone buckle. A fancy affair!
In September 1891, she and her father, the Reverend Montgomery Schuyler "made a little visit to his brother family in the East, en route for home Miss Grace Schuyler May possibly accompany them to St Louis for a little visit."
Sophie was an artist and pioneer in women's suffrage in New York having been one of the founders of the West Chester League of Women Voters, a member of The National Women's Republican Club, New Rochelle Equal Franchise League, and one of the first women to register to vote in New York. Further active with women's affairs, she was involved with the Girls Friendly Society in New York City. She also had marched in all the Suffragette Parades in New York City up to the point the "Who's Who" had been compiled in 1914. (Where some of this information was gathered) possibly more through the years.

Profession: Painter
Studied: St. Louis Art School of Fine Arts; in Paris with Raphael Collin
Exhibited: NY. Watercolor Society; Western Artists, 1898; and NY Society of American Artists
Sources: WW10; Petteys, Dictionary of Women Artists.

She married Henry Dey September 4, 1907. To quote a newspaper clipping of the day, "Miss Sophie Schuyler, daughter of the Rev Montgomery Schuyler D. D. Of St Louis and Henry E Dey were married yesterday morning at Christ Church, Pelham Manor, the bride's brother, the Rev Philip Schuyler officiating. The bride was given in marriage by another brother, Roosevelt Schuyler. Miss Maud Schuyler attended as maid of honor and Theodore M Hill was the best man."
In January of 1934 she was called by her brother Eugene to St. Louis as he recovered from an illness at his son Norton's home- her nephew.
Before Sophie passed away, she had been living at 100 Jackson Avenue in Pelham Manor, New York where she lived as the widow of Henry E Dey who was also an artist and receiver of taxes in Pelham.
She died in at New Rochelle Hospital.

It is interesting to note that despite her actions for women's rights her obituary is titled Mrs. Henry Dey and it is a very small blurb at that.
