Edith Helen Christopher (nee Phillips) on Wednesday, January 30, 2013. Age 90.

Wife of the late Frank V. Christopher. Mother of Rev. Cindy (Boardie) Taylor of Barnsboro, NJ; Claudia (Bill) Ely of Virginia Beach, VA; Cheryll (Larry) Fabuien of Aston, PA; and Clifford Christopher of Clayton, NJ. Grandmother of Tracey Parker, Kelly Burns, Eric Taylor, Dustin Ely, Larry Fabuien, Stacia Christopher, Rachael Christopher, and Joshlyn Christopher. Great-grandmother of 4. Sister of Elizabeth Bowman. Aunt to many nieces and nephews. Daughter of the late Cecil Clifford and Dorothy (nee Esenwein) Phillips.

Born in Philadelphia and raised in the Germantown section, Edith has been a resident of Clayton since 1951. She proudly served in the US Navy during World War II at the USN Air Station in Norfolk, VA where she riveted the wings on the planes. Like many women of her time, Edith later focused on raising a family and taking care of the home. She was a Sunday school teacher for many years and recently attended the Downer United Methodist Church. She was active in the Clayton and Newfield Senior Citizens Groups and loved her bus trips with the groups. Her family fondly remembers and all have samples of the many things she crocheted, counted cross-stitched, needle pointed, or sewed as well as the Christmas and Easter decorations she made with plastic canvas. Edith also bowled in a league until she was 72.

Relatives and friends are invited to her viewing on Monday, February 4, 2013 from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM and on Tuesday, February 5, 2013 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the BARCLAY FUNERAL HOME, 208 Maple Street, Clayton, NJ 08312. Funeral Service on Tuesday at 11:00 AM at the funeral home.
