Elva Gurney joined her Lord and savior Jesus Christ in heaven on April 8, 2013. She was born January 14, 1912 in Davidson County, North Carolina and they were happily married for 33 years. She has two children, John Hoyle Crotts, of Chesapeake, VA and Jackie Ann Cates, of Durham. NC. John is married to Jane Crotts, and they have two sons and wives, John Crotts III and Lynn Crotts-Jeff Crotts and Judy Crotts. Jackie and Tom have two children, Shelia Carpenter and her husband Mark and David Cates and his wife Andrea. Elva also has numerous sweet grandchildren. She worked for the City of Norfolk for many years after the death of her husband, Hoyle. She loved her Church and her brothers and sisters in Christ. She was a wonderful mother and great blessing to all her children. She will be greatly missed.

Funeral service will be held Friday the 12th at First Baptist Church of Welcome, visitation at the church starting at 10:00 am and the service at 11:00 am. Followed by burial at the church cemetery.
