ROBERT W. GRUNAU of Conneaut, OH died Friday morning, April 13, 2012 at Ahuja Medical Center in Cleveland, OH, age 88. He was born Oct. 23, 1923 in Cleveland, the son of William F. Grunau and Nellie O. (Albrecht /Eggebrecht) Kowalski Grunau. His wife, Nellie J. (Szychowski) Grunau died Feb 22, 1989 at Brown Memorial Hospital in Conneaut at age 74. She was born May 19, 1914 in Ohio, the daughter of Anthony W. and Wladaslawa "Fanny" (Konopacka /Kouspaki) Szychowski. Nellie 1st married at age 19, Russell Jones on Oct 28, 1933, the son of Thomas Jones and Hazel Sharp

THEIR DAUGHTER: MRS. Kristene M. (William) DeCaro of Conneaut

Bob, a proud veteran of WW2, enlisted in the US Marine Corps, Dec 11, 1941 at age 18 and married Nellie in 1949. He was a 58-year cancer survivor who, even with his disability, voluntarily "taught" and counseled other patients in the fine art of esophageal speech. He was a member in the International Brotherhood of Teamsters Local 293 and retired from Beverage Distributors as a driver/salesman in 1986. He was a simple, honest, strong man who loved deep and hard; held his family close and had a deep and abiding faith in God. He was an avid Canadian fisherman, always striving for "the next big Great Northern or Muskie" and pouted for "the one that got away". He was a fan of the Cleveland Indians, the Browns and "Judge Judy". He had a sense of humor and the bluest eyes. He was greatly appreciated for his discipline, wisdom and knowledge and is sorely missed. "Any man can be a father, but it takes someone special to be a DAD!"
