Son and the eighth child of Allen and Katherine (Zais) Nichols; brother of Arthur (Jerry), Rachel, Dale, Louise, Richard, Mary, Leona, Helen, Merle, Archie, Harold, and two infant sisters who died after birth.
Gail Hughes Martindale from Concord, Nebraska remembered Walter coming to the telephone office and visiting her, where she worked each evening from 5 to 6 p.m. Walter loved to roller skate with Norman Anderson and his brother in Concord, Nebraska.
Walter served in the U. S. Army, Co. B Third Infantry, during World War II; he saw combat in North Africa, Sicily and Italy. He enlisted 20 January, 1941 and was discharged 16 December, 1944.
Walter's occupation was a house painter. He was married to Lucille Covelli May 7, 1945 and they had a son, Bobbie Allen whose nickname was Butch. They lived at 18932 Runnymede Rd. in Reseda, California.
