LEFT GAS ON BY ACCIDENT AND DIES
Michael Kelly, Night Watchman at Lighting Co., is the Victim.
AT HIS ROOM HERE Yesterday Afternoon, When He Was Found Dead in Bed There
Michael Kelly, 69 years of age, night watchman for the Westchester Lighting company, was found dead in his room at 225 Franklin avenue yesterday afternoon at 5 o'clock from gas poisoning, due, it is believed by the police, to an accident. Coroner Livingston of New Rochelle, investigated the case today and confirmed the report of the police by stating the cause of death to be accidental asphyxiation by illuminating gas. Kelly occupied a room in the attic of the home of Mrs. George McCauley on Franklin avenue. Yesterday morning he returned home at 8 o'clock as usual after his night's work and retired to his room. Usually he arose at about 4 o'clock in the afternoon, but when that hour passed and her roomer did not appear Mrs. McCauley became suspicious and ascended to the top floor of the house where she was attracted to Kelly's room by odor of gas. When she entered the room she found it filled with gas fumes and Kelly unconscious on the bed. A telephone message was sent at 6:02 o'clock to police headquarters for the ambulance which responded with Dr. Gebhard and Detective Ember. Desk Lieutenant De Vaugh also notified the Westchester Lighting company which at once dispatched its pulmotor to Franklin avenue. Dr. Gebhard on reaching the bedside, declared Kelly had expired some time before that. Health Officer Quinn was notified, as was the coroner and the body was removed to Burr Davis and Son's morgue. Detective Ember in making his investigation found that there were two gas jets in the room one used in lighting the place and to the other was attached a tube connected with a two-burner gas plate upon which Kelly cooked his meals. It appeared that Kelly on retiring had turned out the gas burner after cooking his breakfast, but after doing so had left the gas cock open. Gas poured into the room from the burner and he had retired, not realizing what he had done. The police felt certain there was no attempt at suicide.
Kelly leaves a wife and several children. Funeral services will be held on Monday morning from the
home of his son, Richard Kelly, 20 Madison street, and mass will be celebrated later at the Church of the Sacred Heart. Interment will be in Holy Sepulchre cemetery, New Rochelle

The cemetery has had a record mix up. My great grandfather Michael J. Kelly died on Sept. 6 1917 and is hopefully really buried in Plot:D North range 2 plot 4 with his family. Of these two MJK's who both died in 1917, one was moved to Plot:D North range 2 plot 4. The cemetery does not know who. Are they both buried together and it is not written on the headstone or is this MJK still in this grave without a marker? Were they father and son?
