OBITUARY :
MR. ALFRED M. WENGER, 90, of 8260 Hades Church Road, Waynesboro, died at 11:15 A.M. on Monday, April 1, 2013 in Quincy Village, Waynesboro.

Born February 22, 1923 in Chambersburg, PA, he was the son of the late Milton and Alma (Byers) Wenger. He lived most of his life in the Waynesboro area.

He and his wife, the late Sylvia E. (Smeltzer) Wenger, were married on June 17, 1944 in Manheim Brethren in Christ Church. They moved to their present residence in June 1964. Mrs. Wenger died on April 15, 2007.

Mr. Wenger was a farmer from 1941 to 1964. He later worked for five years with Dan Cordell at Waynesboro Builders Supply. From 1969 until his retirement in 1989, he worked for the Borough of Waynesboro as a backhoe operator and later as a foreman.

Mr. Wenger was a member of Five Forks Brethren in Christ Church since 1946, where he served as deacon, trustee, was secretary for the church board, was an adult Sunday school teacher and held many other responsibilities within the church. He enjoyed gardening and woodworking, including making clocks and furniture for his family.

He is survived by three children, Jay R. Wenger and his wife Peach of Waynesboro, Carl D. Wenger and his wife, Susanne of Waynesboro, and Anita W. Kipe of Chambersburg; four grandchildren, Michael Wenger, Jeffrey Wenger, Laura Bedell, and Carrie Thompson; 13 great-grandchildren; four sisters, Abbey Oswald of Mechanicsburg, Margaret Lesher of Mt. Joy, PA, Gladys Gorman of Quincy, and Doris Horst of Maugansville, MD; three brothers, J. Ralph Wenger of Upland, CA, Joel Wenger of Greencastle; Ray Wenger of Shippensburg; and a number of nieces and nephews

In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Rhonda Wenger and Curtis Wenger, one great-granddaughter, Prayer Wenger; and a sister, Sarah Boppe.

Services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Friday, April 5, 2013 in Five Forks Brethren in Christ Church, 9244 Five Forks Road, Waynesboro, with Pastor Adam Meredith and Pastor Bill Shank officiating. Burial will be at 9:30 A.M., Friday, in Air Hill Cemetery, Chambersburg.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M., Thursday evening, in the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Five Forks Brethren in Christ Church, 9244 Five Forks Rd. Waynesboro, PA 17268 or to Gospel Tide, 6647 Molly Pitcher Highway, Chambersburg, PA 17202.
