Lester Vernon Starner, 84 formerly of Liberty, Mo., passed away on Good Friday March 29, 2013 surrounded by his loving family after suffering a long battle with vascular dementia.

Lester was born on September 18, 1928 in Rock Island, IL. to Lester W. & Lillian Mae Starner.

He was wed to Mary Lou Starner on June 18th, 1949.

Lester served as a US Army private during WWII & was stationed in Italy from 1946-1947.

Following an honorable discharge Lester used the GI bill to attend St. Ambrose College in Davenport, IA and received his Bachelor's degree in business.

His professional career was in the corrugated packaging industry where he worked for: Container Corporation, St. Regis, Midwest Hanger, Hub International and Smurfit Stone spanning over fifty years.

Lester enjoyed spending time with his large family and was also an avid traveler; gardener, photographer and he had a lifelong love of sailing.

Lester was an active member of St. James Catholic Church, Liberty, MO since 1975 where he served in the Knights of Columbus and as an usher.

He is preceded in death by his wife Mary Lou Starner, parents: Lester & Lillian Starner & siblings: Iola Huber, Emerald Erikson & Miriam Walsh.

He is survived by his brother Roger Starner & wife Margaret, brother-in-law Paul Martin & wife Lonny & sister-in-law Aderine Nonnenmann.

Lester and Mary's proudest accomplishment was the family they created together, 7 sons & 2 daughters along with 21 grandchildren & 17 great grandchildren: Steve Starner, wife Jeanie, grandson Paul Starner, wife Raquel; great grandchildren Hunter and Amberly Starner, granddaughter Mindy, husband Chad Weinzerl; great granddaughter Caylen. Mark Starner, grandson Stephen Starner. Kevin Starner, granddaughters Kristian Starner, Lia, husband Jon Schnitzler; great grandchildren, Sam, Jack and Max. Leslie Medinger, grandchildren Faith, husband Rob Frakes; great-grandchildren Emily, Ashlynn, Alex and Eion; grandson Justin Medinger, wife Lacey; great grandchildren Kiersten and Bryce; grandson Jared Medinger; grandson Nathan Medinger, wife Amber; great grandchildren Brooke, Aubree and Brayden; grandson Kyle Medinger; great grandson Aiden. Kelly T. Starner, wife Nancy Robinson; grandsons Colin, Ian and Tristian. Brien Starner, wife Kelly; grandchildren MaryGrace, Samuel and Elijah; Daniel Gavin, deceased. Maureen, husband Dwight Friedley; grandson Zachary; great grandson Kaidyn: grandchildren Ashton and Kaleb. Lester W. Starner, grandchildren; Laluna and Lennon.

Lester lived a long and full 84 years of life. He lived his life committed to his faith, family, friends and work community. His energy, drive and passion were known to all he met. He leaves behind a large extended family and a lifetime of cherished memories for his family spent with their father, grandfather and great grandfather who are thankful he rests in peace with the Lord and his wife Mary and family who preceded him in death.
