OCEANA — Auda Mae Brown-Cook was the daughter of the late William Elmer Brown (1892-1958) and Susan "Susie" Ann Bailey-Brown (1899-1991) passed from this life March 22, 2013, at the age of 95 years. She was born February 17, 1918, at Crany, WV, and Mrs. Cook was the wife of the late James Gilbert "Gib" Cook (1909-2002) whom she married to November 2, 1936 in Toney Fork, Wyoming County, WV (per WV Marriage License Register, Wyoming County, WV, 1936, Page 469, Application Date: November 2, 1936).

She was the last surviving member of her family; she was preceded in death by her siblings, William "Hurley" Brown (1925-2003), Dora V. Brown-Walker (1920-2000) and Joe Brown (Deceased). She was the loving mother of the Gilbert Gerald Cook (1937-1937), Jerry T. Cook, with whom she made her home, and Geraldine Faye Cook-Walker (1945-2004).

She enjoyed her grandchildren, Elizabeth Karen (Mike) Growe, Lela Dawn Walker and Matthew Jackson (Megan) Walker, and her four great-grandchildren, Hannah Nicole Growe, Michael Growe, Madilyn Walker and Whitney Walker. She also enjoyed having several nieces and nephews in her life. Other special people in her life were Linda Allen, Scott Hatfield and Sandra Holmes.

Mrs. Cook was a homemaker all of her life and greatly enjoyed cooking, baking cakes and sewing. At the time of her death, she was the oldest member of Toneda Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday, March 25, 2013, at Evans Funeral Home chapel, with her pastor, the Rev. James Hamrick, officiating. She will be laid to rest at Cook Cemetery, located behind Toneda Baptist Church. Friends may gather with her family 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, March 24th, at the funeral home.
