Henry James Hammett was my Great Grandfather He was the youngest child of Thomas James Hammett and Ann Smale. He joined six older siblings, William(1843), Richard(1846), Mary Ann(1848), John(1850), Rachel(1855) and Thomas(1858). Henry came to the United States in 1880. He married Dina (Dinah) Selhorst Rolver on Novenber 23, 1889.

They lived in New York and they had four children that were born there-John Bernard(1891), George W(1894), Elizabeth Anna(1896),and Thomas James(1898)

The 1900's Census has the family living in Leroy, New York. Henry made his living as a mason. The 1905 New York State census lists the address of the family as 72 North St,LeRoy, New York.

The 1910 Census has the family living in Dundee Lakes, Saddle River, New Jersey. Another son Charles(1908) was born in New Jersey. Henry was working with chemicals.

According to the 1930's Census Henry(71)lived at 56 Central Avenue, Rochelle Park, Bergen County, New Jersey with his wife Dina(60) and their son Charles H(21) Next door neighbors were older son Thomas(32), Martha(29), Robert(8), Thomas,Jr(6), Anne B.(4 11/12) and Dorothy(2 7/12). Henry worked as a flagman for the railroad. Charles was employed as wireman for the telephone company.

Henry passed away at Holy Name Hospital in Teaneck, New Jersey
