Elizabeth Hammett Wiseman was my grandfather's only sister. I don't know very much about her.

When I was younger, my Dad and I would go to the cemetery quite often. One grave we would always visit was Elizabeth's. My Dad would make it a must to go and stop there, he would linger, very deep in thought and then move on to the other family members. He seemed so sad, I never asked him what he was thinking about--now I wished I had.

Elizabeth was his Aunt and she died quite young-he would have been about 20 or so when she passed in 1937. I knew my Dad well enough to know she meant a great deal to him and he missed her. As I look back on those times, I felt like I didn't want to interrupt what must have been a very emotional and difficult time for him.

Elizabeth was married to Peter Wiseman on October 27, 1917.The marriage took place in Spring Valley, Rockland Co., New York. The bride and her groom were both 21 years old. Elizabeth and her parents, Henry and Dinah, are listed as living at 512 E. 41st Street, Paterson, New Jersey. Also listed were Peter's parents, Edward and Jennie (Vandine) Wiseman, both born in Holland. Peter's address is listed as 575 E 39th Street, Paterson, New Jersey. His occupation is that of a loom fixer. They had two sons-- Ellsworth James and Harry Edward. Ellsworth married Mary Godwin and they had a son-James Hammett. Harry married Ethel Witte and they had two daughters-Joyce and Helen.
