WALDOBORO - Austin W. Achorn, 86, died March 20, 2013, at Windward Gardens in Camden. He was born May 7, 1926, in Waldoboro, to Amos and Myrtle Wentworth Achorn. Austin grew up in Waldoboro and graduated from Waldoboro High School.
He worked for G.T.E. Sylvania in Waldoboro for 35 years. He also worked as an electrician and drove part time for the Postal Service.

He served on the Waldoboro Fire Department for many years. He enjoyed boating, sitting with his friends at the counter at Moody's Diner and tinkering on things to fix. He especially enjoyed mowing his lawn and keeping it immaculate. He also loved to hear and tell a good joke.

He was predeceased by his wife, Olga Nadine Achorn; mother and father, Myrtle and Amos Achorn; brother, Elmer Achorn; and grandchildren, Sidney Austin Achorn and Austin Roy Bragg.

He is survived by his children, Colleen Vannah, and husband Ernie, of Waldoboro, Wanda Johnson and significant other Jac Carey, of Brunswick, Nancy Pennington and husband Terry, of Warren, Richard Crabtree and wife Elizabeth, of South Hope, Trenna Crabtree and Barbara Laurie, of Topsham, Eileen Parsons and husband Terry, of Florida, and Robert Achorn and wife Linda, of Islesboro; sister, Geraldine Jones and husband Roland, of Jefferson; grandchildren, Ernie Vannah, Courtney Bain, Christopher Johnson, Trenna Bragg, Alan Bragg, Michelle Dennison, Julie Schmidt, Melissa Melvin, Kevin Sproul, Shawna Wing and Kimberly Achorn; 17 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; companion, Arlene Holmes, of Waldoboro; and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service for friends and family to celebrate Austin's life will be held in the spring at Shuman Cemetery in Waldoboro. (Kennebec Journal 3/23/2013)
