Mrs. Thelma P. Montgomery, 83, of Amherst, Ohio, formerly of Tunica, died January 9, 2002 at Community Health Partners, Lorain, Ohio, following an extended illness. She was a native of Tunica and a 1936 graduate of Tunica High School. After marrying and moving to Amherst, she and her husband returned to Tunica until 1997, when they moved back to Ohio to be closer to family.

Services were held on Jan. 12 at Forest Hills South in Memphis, TN, with burial in Forest Hills Cemetery. Rev. Doug Hardin officiated at the services.

Mrs. Montgomery was a member of Tunica United Methodist Church and enjoyed cooking, baking, knitting and reading.

Surviving is her husband of 62 years, Russell "Jack" Montgomery; two sons, Russell "Al" Montgomery of Amherst and Harold Montgomery of Grafton, Ohio; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Elbert and Bernice Pruette and two sisters, Lillian Turner and Lila Fuller.

The family requests that memorials be made to Tunica United Methodist Church or New Life Hospice, Elyria, Ohio.
