Lillie, age 92, died at the Cape Fear Memorial Hospital following a period of declining health.
Born the daughter of the late Frank Cleveland George and Mrs. Katie Bonam George. Her husband, William Henry Melton, Sr. preceded her in death in 1976. She was a homemaker and member of the Ogden Baptist Church.
Surviving are her sons, William H. Melton, Jr. of Detroit, MI, George “Cobb” Melton of Burgaw, Larry Gwin “Buddy” Melton and John M. Melton, both of Rocky Point; daughters, Bernice M. Mintz of Wilmington, Barbara M. Powell of Rocky Point, Shirley M. Lassiter of Burgaw, and Rowena Virginia Williams of Wilmington; 33 grandchildren, fifty-five great-grandchildren; and 7 great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Melton was preceded in death by 3 sons, Robert Dale Melton, Arnold Roland Melton and Sterling Ray Melton; and one daughter, Sandra Mae Lewis.
